Abubakar Shehu, Chairman of the state chapter of the association, made the appeal in Sokoto on Sunday while speaking with newsmen. Shehu said: “Government should consider the matter as urgently as possible bearing in mind the pains and suffering of the citizen. “The Federal Government should consider the pain people are going through in the country, sit down with the labour leaders and find a lasting solution to the strikes. “Moreover, if you give everybody his or her deserved right, to me you have finished with that person and he or she will have no option than to continue to do their jobs.” He further explained that initially, members had no intention of embarking on strike and that it was the situation on ground that informed the action. “For a long time now we have been making d

#NURSINGOPINION: WHAT NURSES ARE PASSING THROUGH IN SOME GENERAL HOSPITALS.

Image
WHAT NURSES ARE PASSING THROUGH IN SOME GENERAL HOSPITALS. By Umaru Isah Kumo. A Nigerian Nurse Cry... As a Nurse who works in a General Hospital, it is truely frustrating to realise that our leaders do not acceed to the International Nursing Standards (W.H.O standard is 3 patient per 1 nurse) as is done around the world. In my place of work we have 1 - 22 for every shift in some wards, this means a single nurse to a total of 22 patients. I know this wouldn't be much of a shock to most nurses as some places are a whole lot worse than mine in terms of nurses-patient ratios. You might wonder to yourself "this isn't possible" while reading this but let me break it down for you: we have three (3) Doctors & a total of sixty (60) Nurses working in our General Hospital (Remember not all work the same shifts, or in the saame wards or the same days...). Sometimes in a Ward the Nurse who is supposed to be on duty falls ill, most likely due to

Mr. Adeniji said the association is in agreement with all JOHESU’s positions on the recent seven-day ultimatum given to the federal government to accede to all its lingering demands dated back to 2012. The strike is coming barely a week after the National Association of Resident Doctors suspended its strike. The healtht workers had earlier threatened to embark on an indefinite industrial action that would shut down operations in public hospitals due to the prolonged delay by

#NEWSUPDATE : Nigerian nurses, midwives to go on nationwide strike

Image
The National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives (NANNM) has issued a strike notice to the Nigerian government. The association urged the Federal Government to declare a state of emergency in the health sector to ensure a comprehensive resolution of all matters plaguing the sector. A statement on Monday by Aliyu Shehu, national publicity secretary, said such radical approach is “urgently needed to resolve issues in the health sector including administration, practice, headship, representation, benefits, and welfare of all stakeholders in the industry”. It warned that resolution of contentious issues with members of the National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) would open up a chain of industrial actions by other unions and associations in the health industry. NANNM said that the issues it presented to government predated those raised by NARD, which the Federal Ministries of Health and Labour ignored in spite of court judgments. The association listed some of
