Image

Dr. Gor, a charming medical doctor described her experiences in activism and how she survived the various threats of life. She explained in detail her concerns for a better healthcare system in Kenya, her roles in the impeachment process of the county governor Anne Waiguru, her reasons for taking the speaking up against the government, and her future ambition. She also described her source of supports from colleagues and healthcare practitioners. 10% of the mortality due to COVID 19 are healthcare workers. Meanwhile, there was already a shortage of healthcare practitioners in the hospitals across the coun

THE NEED FOR CONTINUOUS UPDATE OF KNOWLEDGE AMONG NURSES By Beatrice Ogiemwonyi

Image
Knowledge they say is power. We acquire knowledge by continuous reading, academic advancement and practice. Nurses are known to lay emphasis on improving our clinical skills (practice) but when it comes to acquiring more knowledge through reading and furthering our education, we are lagging behind.  The importance of reading cannot be overemphasized. As a nurse, when was the last time you opened your textbooks and materials you used while in school to update your knowledge? How many of us constantly check the internet like Google for more information on a particular topic you once know. We are in a global age hence every thing keep changing. Books are being published all the time but do we read? Do we visit book sites like Amazon, Okada etc to learn more? Some of us purchase books but do not open it. Government Lying About Flattening Covid-19 Curve – Doctors

Image
Kenya: The Doctors’ union has come out to refute claims by the government that the Covid-19 curve is flattening in the country. Central Kenya Secretary-General of Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists and Dentists Union Gor Goody urged the government to conduct a mortality audit to realize that the country is still losing many patients to Covid-19. The Ministry of Health in its daily Covid-19 briefing has been indicating a decline in the infection rate of the virus. Speaking to a local radio station, Goody said patients suffering from non-communicable diseases such as cancer, diabetes, hypertension, and the aged are contracting the disease and dying without being tested. “Mortuaries are abnormally full, which means that the mortality rate has increased. But we are not getting the right statistics. We are only claiming that the curve is flattening. How is it flattening?” she posed. Goody claims Kenya cannot undertake increase testing since there are not enough staff and resources. Th

South Africa's strict coronavirus lockdown credited with saving lives, but economy is suffering

Image
South Africa’s coronavirus lock down measures, some of the strictest in the world, have earned praise from groups including the World Health Organization [WHO] for saving lives – but at the same time, recent data could prove some analysts’ claims that its economy has been largely “destroyed.” The country’s statistician-general announced this week the gross domestic product [GDP] has slumped 51% in the second quarter of this year. Investment specialist Andrew Lapping quoted South Africa’s National Treasury as predicting up to 7 million could lose their jobs, out of a formal workforce of just over 10 million. So many have lost their jobs that Johannesburg’s normally clogged highways now see mostly free-flowing traffic, even during rush hour. A salesman for one of the largest car auction showrooms, now full to the brim with vehicles for sale, told Fox News they have stopped taking luxury vehicles from desperate owners “because few have got the money to buy these cars, even cheaply.” Gov
