#STRIKEUPDATE : FROM THE DESK OF NANNM PRESIDENT

Image
*FROM THE DESK OF NANNM PRESIDENT* Good evening dear professional colleagues, here is a fraternal greetings from the NANNM presidential  desk. I appreciate your unflinching support always and wish to intimate you with the update and terms of settlement of the ongoing industrial action.  I wish to reassure every Nigerian nurse that the struggle has just started and we will not relent until when our privileges are taken without stress and our hard earned rights are not tampered with in whatever form. Struggle continues and when ever you are called upon do not relent, as there is power in unity of purpose. The battle is yet to be worn totally.                                                                       We are equally not unaware of the cacophony of self destruction rolled out by the only disgruntled group of people that is holding the progress of Nigerian health sector down. We shall break their alibi and ride on to glory.  There will be adequate responses to their unguard

#NEWSUPDATE: RE: FEDERAL FRAUD, RESIDENT DOCTORS AND THE REST OF US by Proffesor Isaac Folorunso Adewole

RE: FEDERAL FRAUD, RESIDENT DOCTORS AND THE REST OF US by Proffesor Isaac Folorunso Adewole My attention has just been drawn to the back-page column of The Sun Newspaper of Sunday, September 24, 2017, written by Mrs Funke Egbemode, a media guru with the above title. Ordinarily, I would not have commented on the issue, but I have decided to say one or two things on the matter which the respected President of the Nigerian Guild of Editors raised in the write-up. Contrary to the impression created in the write-up about resident doctors, they are trainees and constitute a section of the workforce within the tertiary health system in Nigeria. There are other professional health workers that also provide service; nurses/midwives, pharmacists, physiotherapists, record officers including cleaners are all critical to a functional health system. Government must be seen to offer a balanced and fair deal with each of these professional groups especially in an already polarised environment. W

The President/Sec. NUAHP/AHPA.                         First we wish to commend the leaderships of NUAHP/AHPA and JOHESU for being able to  unite strongly in taking the  present decision. Thank you so much.    Having commenced this action, it is our suggestion that the strike should not be suspended until reasonable successes culminating in d issuance of circulars and getting alerts over such issues such as skipping, promotion arrears, etc. As Physiotherapists we are at par with medical practitioners in all respects yet, the government treats them as if they are special beings. We want this discrimination to stop henceforth.   We  strongly appeal to you as follows:  1) Centralised Internship : A circular giving immediate approval and instant implementation is requited.   2) Consultancy status and specialist allowance to be paid now, The idea of setting up a committee is a delay tactics therefore discourage it but if impossible, set a time line within a week.  3) Minis

Crisis looms in health sector as NMA moves to stop FG/JOHESU agreement

Image
A serious crisis that could lead to a long closure of government hospitals across the country is looming; as the Nigeria Medical Association (NMA) has taken a deft move to stop the recent agreement reached by the Federal Government, with other health workers under the Joint Health Sector Unions (JOHESU), antagonized JOHESU’s demands, and condemned the signed agreement. As the professional rivalry between the doctors and other health professionals in the health sector continue unabated the NMA specifically declared its opposition, to almost all the issues raised and demands made by JOHESU, describing them as unacceptable, has kicked against the agreement recently reached with other health workers under the Joint Health Sector Unions (JOHESU). The NMA specifically opposed to salary harmonization, one of the important issues which were part of the agreement reached with JOHESU, and declared that the doctors cannot receive the same salary as other health workers. In a letter hurrie

Health workers on strike may be waiting for the Minister of Health, Prof. Isaac Adewole to sign the memorandum of settlement entered into on Saturday, between the Federal Government and the leadership of the Joint Health Sector Unions before asking their members to suspend action and return to work. However, Chairman of JOHESU Biobelomoye Joy Josiah told a news conference yesterday that they were suspending the strike action in principle because “there are certain things we expect the government to do between now and Tuesday and once that is done, the strike will be officially called off and our members will be directed to resume work immediately”.
