Between 2000 and 2013, the incidence of malaria decreased by 30% worldwide and the mortality rate fell by 47%. Building on these important advances, the WHO's new global malaria strategy for the next 15 years shifts the focus to malaria elimination, an area in which there is still much work to be done: in 2013, 198 million people were infected worldwide and 584,000 died. According to a new study, people who sleep more than eight hours a day have a higher risk for a stroke compared with people who sleep six to eight hours. In the new study, published in the journal Neurology, researchers followed nearly 10,000 people ages 42 to 81 for almost 10 years. They recorded both the amount of sleep they typically got each night, as well as whether they had a stroke. Around 7 out of 10 of the men and women slept six to eight hours, and about 1 in 10 slept more than eight hours a night on average.
