GFMER - Online Training Course in Adolescent Sexual and Reproductive Health 2019



Dear colleagues,

The Geneva Foundation for Medical Education and Research (GFMER) in collaboration with the World Health Organisation’s Department of Reproductive Health and Research/Human Reproduction Programme and other partners announces the 2019 online training course in adolescent sexual and reproductive health.
 
This course provides health professionals with knowledge, skills and competencies in adolescent sexual and reproductive health, especially for those health care providers whose access to learning is limited by time, financial resources or other constraints and for whom access to quality education in the field of sexual and reproductive health is limited. With this training program, participants will learn first-hand about the day-to-day and long-term challenges in the field of adolescent sexual and reproductive health.

Objectives of the course
 
To build knowledge and understanding in the following areas:

  • The rationale for the provision of a package of effective health and social interventions to promote adolescent sexual and reproductive health, to prevent health and social problems, and to respond to them if and when they arise.
  • WHO’s recommendations for the delivery of these interventions.
  • Special considerations in delivering these interventions to adolescents.
 
Topics to be covered in the course

  • Comprehensive sexuality education provision
  • Contraception counselling and provision
  • Antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal care
  • Safe abortion care
  • Sexually transmitted infections prevention and care
  • HIV prevention and care
  • Violence against women and girls: prevention, support and care
  • Harmful traditional practices (child marriage and female genital mutilation) prevention and response
Course duration: 8 weeks
Course fee: USD250

Start date: 09 September 2019
End date: 04 November 2019

Application deadline: 12 August 2019
Payment deadline: 02 September 2019


Eligible candidates are all health professionals, paramedical staff, project planners and managers in health-related areas and social scientists. 
 
Course structure consists of lectures, presentations, links to resource documents and recommended readings. A personal coach is assigned to each course participant and facilitates the learning process.

Certification
At the end of each course, the participants are required to have completed the short assignments that are part of each module with the assistance of their tutor and to complete and submit an end of course survey. The successful participants will be awarded a certificate.
