My advocacy for increased access to literacy and education - Taibat Hussain

More than 2 billion people world-wide cannot read or write a single sentence, most of them in Sub-Saharan Africa. Earlier this year, I became a World Literacy Foundation Youth Ambassador. The World Literacy Foundation strives to ensure that every young individual, regardless of geographic location, has the opportunity to acquire literacy and reading skills to reach their full potential. My experience so far has been ENLIGHTENING. I have been exposed to alarming facts and figures about illiteracy rate in Africa and the World at large and the  resources has equip me with the  skills s to advocate and fundraise for literacy in my community. Similarly, I have connected with over 700 dynamic and diverse young people doing amazing things in their community.

Thus, as part of my advocacy for increased access to literacy and education, I will be launching an online campaign from July 15th to August 15th to highlight to stakeholders  that strong literacy skills can open the door to future opportunities and allow young people to reach their full potential.

This initiative aims to make a difference to the literacy levels and education of disadvantaged children in Uganda by providing solar-powered tablets to schools pre-loaded with e-books and educational resources in their local language

In my role as a WLF Youth Ambassador, l am committed to leading meaningful change in my community. I hope to see more young people discover the joy of reading and support the literacy activities of the World Literacy Foundation in our community and beyond.” And together we can make a difference.
