Iranian Midwife died of CoVid-19

Iran:We are extremely sad to report that a member of the Scientific Association of Midwifery in Iran has died today of Covid-19. Seyedeh Azamat Mousavi (pictured here) was a mother and a BSc midwife working at a public health clinic in Northern Iran and was responsible for taking care of women infected by the virus.

ICM sends its deepest regrets and messages of solidarity to the Scientific Association of Midwifery and its members. We are aware that midwives around world continue to risk their own health and safety to support pregnant women, babies, and their families during this global pandemic, and we want to emphasize the increasing need for protective equipment in countries like Iran. This equipment will help limit the risks of contracting the virus for midwives and other healthcare provides whose safety is just as important as that of their patients.

We call for midwives everywhere and members of the global health community to echo our support for countries like Iran, Italy, and China which have been particularly impacted by the virus. Together, we will continue to persevere and grow from the many challenges that Covid-19 has introduced to our profession. Midwives are, and have always been, extremely resilient and this situation only further exemplifies our resiliency.
